Overall Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5/5
“You are a vampire…who is afraid of blood,” I said. “Yes.” I stood up and walked away. “I take it back. This place trashes all fairy tales known to mankind,” I muttered.” – MBRC
Werewolves have fleas. Cyclops need glasses. Dark Elves give villain monologues.
Maybe the magical paranormal world isn’t quite what we expect?
This special boxset contains the complete urban fantasy series the Magical Beings’ Rehabilitation Center: Vampires Drink Tomato Juice, Goblins Wear Suits, and The Lost Files of the MBRC.
Book 1: Vampires Drink Tomato Juice
Morgan might be losing her sanity. She thought it was a normal day but after witnessing an incident involving a werewolf, a substitute teacher/possible vampire, and a thermos of tomato juice, things get weird.
A quick train ride later she finds herself at the Chicago headquarters of all things fantastical: the Magical Beings’ Rehabilitation Center.
At the MBRC Morgan encounters dragons, vampires, elves, centaurs and even the Pooka, a shape-shifter who is too handsome for his own good.
The MBRC strives to rehabilitate and integrate magical beings into human society. It’s also supposed to be a secret, and Morgan’s accidental initiation breaks every rule the place has.
Book 2: Goblins Wear Suits
Morgan has settled into a balance between her school work and teaching at the MBRC. But she doesn’t know what she wants after this.
Her family and friends, including a certain flirtatious Pooka, all have colleges and future career paths for her to consider. Her choices are made even more difficult when terrorist threats are issued by an anti-human, magic-based organization.
And their main target is Morgan.
Book 3: The Lost Files of the MBRC
When Morgan decided to stay employed at the Magical Beings’ Rehabilitation Center, she thought her life would quiet down as she started college and developed her career.
She thought wrong.
P.S This review is for the whole MBRC three-book set 🙂
My K.M. Shea obsessed friends, Ashleigh and Cora @Ashleigh.books and @Coraannehurst, recommended me these books a while back. Ok, to be 100% honest, urban fantasy is not my jam. Yes, I will read it but it’s not my book genre preference. And comedy. Gosh, I’m the W O R S T person anyone can with to watch romcoms or comedy shows. I can’t laugh. At all. Having made that clear, I can proudly say I have graduated from boring stone face to level one enjoyer of comedy books..Ladies and gents, these books made me laugh. Aha! When I told my brother about MBRC (Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center) and what they were about the first thing he said was. ”Ok, so when does the movie come out?” lol. They are that good!
K.M. Shea did a masterful job mingling comedy, urban fantasy, magical creatures, romance, and sassiness, all in three books! BOOM! The product, three clean, enjoyable, relatable, #noblebright, funny, and just awesome books! The MC of the book, Morgan is one of the few teen characters that I’ve read about that truly behaves like a human planet earth teen, flaws and all. As much as I would love to say we teens are angels and just perfect human beings, truth is we are not, and Morgan and all the teen characters of the book embodied that aspect perfectly. Plot-wise, I loved it! You can really tell the author planned all of her books beforehand because the books conclude perfectly. The pace was very good, though, in the second book, the middle section dragged on a bit, in the end, it was so worth it! Go grab these books and come back here and tell me how you like them! Also, if you buy the ebook set, you get some bonus short stories about the future of the MBRC, and let me tell you, THEY ARE SOOOO GOOD!!!
Cleanness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 (some descriptive kisses)
Violence: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 Non-bloody violence. Just some fighting between good and bad guys.
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
